SEX GOD
Being Human, Yet Disconnected – Part 1
Summarizing Maxie in Week 1 – “This is about That”
Everyone will have to find his or her own place in this series/subject/issue. Sexuality is a large and challenging topic because it is about more than a bodily function. When we discuss sexuality, we are not just talking about intercourse. It is about the fact that we are more than our bodies, more than bodies with minds - we are embodied spirits. Sexuality is about us, the deep down all the way to the core us, the place where few of us ever go, the place where we can be hurt and broken so deep that it seems nothing and no one can reach or fix us. Sex is really about our need to be connected. We want the kind of sexual intimacy that leaves us feeling found and valued. Many of us have found sex but no one found us in the process. Seeking and finding sex without finding God, others, or ourselves is why many of us are a broken mess, because this is about that.

Scott’s Introduction
This series will require courage and boldness, vulnerability and trust.
The thing we need the most requires the most sacrifice. Many of us wish there could be another way.
There are no shortcuts to maturity and transformation, especially when God is involved.
We are constantly tempted to go around something difficult, to run away from something that terrifies us.

1. We must begin with “Our Story”
Genesis 1-3 - we are disconnected from God, each other, the earth, from our identity, story, and purpose.

2. Our Sexuality - Two part understanding
Our awareness of our disconnection (on any or all of these levels)…
Our attempts at reconnection (on any or all of these levels)…
Our story is constantly showing us that “this is really about that”
Our disconnection with each other begins AFTER we disconnect/hide from God. We have fled nakedness – true nakedness – ever since that moment.
3. We are image-bearers - Genesis 1
We are created in the image of God. We are given the opportunity to uphold what it means to be human. We are called to see people as God does - how we treat others reflects how we feel about the Creator.
So, in review…
-We are born human – we are born bearing God’s image.
-We are born disconnected – we can sense the depth of that pain.
4. Our identity is involved here.
“You cannot become connected with God until you are at peace with who you are.”
Self-rejection destroys people in our culture. Our identity is intricately tied up in our sexuality.

Questions
-Where in your life is this about that?
-Where did you find yourself in “our story” in Genesis 1-3?
-Where are you beginning to see where you are disconnected and pursuing connection in your life?
-Where are you hiding? What are you hiding from? Where are rejecting yourself?

SEX GOD
This is About That
Historians insist that history is not about this and then that, but rather, it is the process of moving from this to that. History, like our lives, is a messy transition, not a controllable and manageable sequence of events.
Everyone will have to find his or her own place in this series/subject/issue. I cannot find it for you. I not suppose to find it for you.
Symbols are powerful because they express deeper sentiments connected with the events of life that shape us. Ask people about the events in their lives that remain in some way symbolic for their life in general. “That’s my life. I’m just unlucky or never in the right place at the right time, or a day late and a dollar short, or things just never work out for me…etc.”
We exaggerate or we deny or we protect or we ignore or we defend or we dramatize or we… What is it exactly about us that we cannot or will not face?
Our life is always about more that we say it is, but do we ever get at the more?
Sexuality is large and challenging topic because it is about more than a bodily function. It is about us, the deep down all the way to the core us, the place where few us ever go. When we discuss sexuality we are not just talking about intercourse.
We are more than bodies with minds. We are embodied spirits. We have a soul, a spirit. That is why we can be hurt and broken so deep that it seems nothing and no one can reach or fix us. The Bible tells us that the reason is because of where everything started. Before sex there was God. God created us and in the process initiated this conversation about sex. Somehow, we cannot understand sex or ourselves without recognizing that this is also about God.
Sex is really about our need to be connected. Is it because we are so inept at connecting that we have made sex about performance? We want to be found and valued. We want the kind of sexual intimacy that leaves us feeling found and valued. Many of us have found sex but no one found us in the process.
Sex is a great mystery about us and others that a mere physical experience cannot exhaust or explain. Maybe that is why our attempts to do so leave us empty and disenchanted.
Seeking and finding sex without finding God, others, or ourselves is why many of us are a broken mess, because this is about that.

Our culture has molded Jesus into many things but the Christian faith recognizes him only as the God-man. What's your response to Jesus, the God-man?
What is your image of Jesus? Is your Jesus a life-coach, a lobbyist, a therapist, a superstar? Is he your CEO, your guru, or even magic Jesus?
Each week at Crash, from January 14 to February 11, we'll look at our culture's images of Jesus. We'll be challenged to discover the Truth of who Jesus is and how we should live because of it.
Crash exists to challenge people to love, think, and serve like Christ

myjesus - flexible deity, part four

 <itunes:author>Dr. Maxie Burch</itunes:author>

An Inconvenient Truth - Part Five

 <itunes:author>Dr. Maxie Burch</itunes:author>

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. If humanity is created Imago Dei, in the image of God, then we are created as co-creators with God. Are creating world that reflects the nature of God that we see manifested in the life of Jesus CHrist or are we merely participating in the culture? Our previous series directed us to look at ourselves as Christ-centered servant leaders. Is there an inconvenient truth that prevents us from engaging our world for Christ?
